The Curatorial Archive

Welcome to the website of Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos’ curatorial archive project. The website is a growing collection of archival materials of artists, curators, artist and artists collectives in Nigeria. In more concrete terms, it provides access to publications, documents, audio- visual materials, blog post, catalogues, and other resources.

An important starting point for setting up the website is in fulfillment of CCA’s objectives of providing access to critical material on art and culture, which resulted in setting up one of the fastest growing independent art libraries in Africa with a significant collection of materials on contemporary art, critical theory and curatorial practice with more than 15,000 books, magazines, journals, videos and other ephemera.

The curatorial archive project started with the archive of the founder of CCA, Lagos – Bisi Silva, a collection of materials relating to her curatorial practice. The Centre aims at researching and documenting curatorial archives of other curators from Africa. In addition, we will collect and archive new media art such as photography, video, virtual reality and sound art.

Ultimately, we hope to expand our users by making these resources available for registered researchers worldwide.
